TEACH IT - SING IT

Memphis Symphony Principal Horn, Caroline Kinsey  has been teaching for nearly twenty-five years.  Her main teachers, April Myers San Antonio, TX; Verne Reynolds, former Eastman School of Music Horn Professor and Eli Epstein, former 2nd Horn with the Cleveland Orchestra and now New England Conservatory and Boston Conservatory at Berklee each contributed to her musical development and made her the overall musician she is today.

Caroline’s teaching style varies from student to student depending on their needs and personality. Keeping a positive and honest approach to teaching has been the most successful experience for her and her students. The overall theme to her teaching and playing is “If you can sing it you can play it!”

Caroline continues to grow in mindfulness in performing and strives to integrate this into her teaching. Her unique perspective lessens the burden and stress of performance anxiety for her students.

As a young horn player, Caroline was very competitive. She started taking horn lessons at age 10 and soon after  began performing with advanced members of the studio.  Playing solos at the end of the year with fellow horn colleagues was always the highlight of the year. Caroline feels it is very important to do the same with her horn studio. Playing in front of people with a pianist as soon as possible is really important! Play in church, weddings, parties…wherever you can find a chance.

Caroline is currently on faculty at The Hot Springs Music Festival in Hot Springs, AR and The Sewanee Summer Music Festival —as well as maintaining a private horn studio.  She offers in person and virtual horn lessons via Skype or Zoom.
